The road goes ever, ever on

There is a sign up on the bulletin board in the MSC Post Office. It reads, "Due to the current unending workload, the light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off until further notice". Every time I am by there, I laugh at this sign. As Christians, we have a hope that we will eventually find rest, the hope that eventually the ransomed saints will throng up the streets of light. But until then, we keep going and going and going, like the pink bunny in the Energizer battery advertisements. We keep struggling with sin, we keep fighting the good fight (and, more often than not, failing) and we keep seeking to become more like Christ as He redeems His own and the world for Himself.

Not only do we work in our spiritual lives, but we work on and on in the responsibilities we've been given. For me, this is class. This upcoming week is the final week of the first summer session, and I'm just getting to the point where I am glad it is coming to its end. I have two test on Thursday, homework due on Tuesday, and lots of reading to do in the meantime. After that, I get a weekend off, and then the second session starts. Some break, huh?

I'm trying to remember through all I have to do that there remains a rest for the people of God. That even as we continually work and strive in this world, we will find rest and reward for our doings and strivings in the next. How great is the love of the Father, that He should only make us toil against ourselves and against the world for a time, and after that He will give us peace with Him and award us with the rest that we so long for now, resting in His presence and beneath His cross and His blood for all eternity.
