Frustration v. Faith

Today has been an up and down day, full of a lot of work on a friend's computer where with everything I tried, I seemed to lack one minor thing that I needed to solve the problem. I can download the network drivers for her computer off the Internet...but in order to connect to the Internet, I have to have a working network driver. I could install a different OS, except that her CD drive wouldn't read the CD properly...and so on and so on. After several hours and a good deal of frustration on my part, the RUF group (and some others) went to play volleyball and then get ice cream.

While we were sitting and eating, I got to thinking--why is it that issues like that are so frustrating? They aren't the end of the world, and life goes on even when someone's computer is down for a few hours more than expected (including mine). It's not a huge deal if I spend a couple hours that I intended to be doing something else working on a troublesome project. It's the fact that the day that I had planned for myself has gotten out of sync and out of my schedule, and I feel annoyed and frustrated about it. A very wise friend of mine told me that a very easy way to frustrate a person is to screw up their schedule for a couple of days, and that is true.

You know why I get frustrated at things like that? Because I don't have sufficient faith. I think that these problems are so huge and so annoying, when in fact God's loving hand is guiding everything that happens. The issues we face are not so huge that they intimidate the Lord Jesus. With this knowledge in mind, why is it that we make such monsters out of molehills? Of course the answer to this question is because we don't trust God sufficiently. I, for one, need to take this lesson and apply it to other problems that seem even greater and more insurmountable than a troublesome ethernet card. Whether I will do that or not remains to be seen, but I pray that I will face things ahead with faith rather than with frustration.

P.S. I went to Austin last night, which is why there was no blog entry yesterday.
