No One Loves me like You

One desire common to everyone I've ever met is the desire to honestly be loved by others, both in a general sense through friendships and in a deeper sense that is found in marital relationships. People don't want to be tolerated or merely enjoyed, they want to be loved. And relationships with a true loving element do occur within the Church to be sure, but never on the level that we wish that they would. People will always be selfish, and we will always let each other down--that's a part of being sinful. We don't go around dying to self in order to serve Christ and to serve others as we should. And as a result, none of us are loved on this earth the way that we feel that we ought to be.

Life can often seem like an emotional void, that we are just slogging through alone and unaided. It's incredibly easy for me personally to feel like this frequently. When we feel that way, it's important to remember that Christ does love us in a true way, in a way that no human will ever love us on earth. I know this seems like a Christianity 101 concept (a lot of this blog probably does), but it's one of those things that we need to be reminded of again and again.

Resting in God's love is not something that I am very good at doing. It involves communing with Him, trusting Him, relying on Him, and a lot of other things that take a lot of work. John Ferguson once said that the best way to embarrass a Christian is to ask him how is prayer life is going. And while it may seem like I'm bunny-trailing, these topics are interconnected. Many times, the reason we may not feel like God is present and that His loving care is around us is simply because we are not communing with Him as we should. Maybe that is why I, for one, feel so alone so often.

"Greater love has no one that this, that someone lays down his life for his friends." (John 15:13, ESV)
