Solving the mystery of the universe
A modern worship leader, Matt Redman, wrote a song called O Sacred King, in which the beginning of the chorus reads, "It's the mystery of the universe, You're the God of holiness, and yet You welcome souls like Me". John Piper said of overlooking sin in the Old Testament period that it constituted the greatest scandal ever, something problematic enough that it justified "keeping God awake at night", letting sin pass without redemption.
Of course, this mystery really isn't a mystery (although there are many others) and this problem no longer exists, for Jesus Christ was crucified for us. On this Maundy Thursday, the night that Christ was betrayed, we should remember that it is by His stripes that we are sealed and by His sacrifice that we are forgiven of our transgressions.
A lot of times, I have a tendency of focusing far too much on things that I don't feel are going right. I'd like for things in my life to be different, both regarding my own sin and events around me. But it's both important and refreshing to know that because of Christ's death, it is well with my soul (as another great hymn put it).
