A Glad New Year to All the Earth (2008 Edition)
A glad new year to all the earth.
Edit: I wrote the above line before I realized that it was last year's title; I then decided to recycle the title. Kudos to anyone who recognizes where it's from...
I'm sitting at Live Oak right now (I suppose that's starting the year off well!) being productive and getting my new machine (yay!) working up to my specifications. It's taken me less than two hours, which says a lot, honestly. Granted, I did an account transfer from my old machine, but it preserved pretty much everything. An entire hour was spent converting to the out-of-the-box Apache; I'd custom-compiled it on my old machine because Tiger shipped with Apache 1.3, which was too old.
I do have one gripe...Apple, would it kill you guys to include GCC standard with OS X? Or, if you must make me download it from your developer site, at least package it separately. It's ridiculous that I have to install XCode Tools (a 1.2 GB download) when all I really want is GCC (which is about...5 MB...tops). I'm sure there are other ways to get it working on this that don't involve a 1.2 GB download, but the official way should be less wait than this.
I guess I shouldn't complain. I still have it better than the Windows users. XCode is free. :)
So I guess at some point here I should talk about 2007 and what a great year it was, or some equivalent shit. :) Honestly, I don't have a whole lot to say. 2007 wasn't a memorable year for me; neither a good year nor a bad year. I guess really it's just that 2007 pales in comparison because 2006 was so momentous for me.
However, everyone feel free to post a list of highlights of 2007. What did you do that you hadn't done before?

I bought a minivan. I don't really know if that's a good thing or a bad thing? :)

You have twins, so it's acceptable.

Too many things to list in a single post :)

Aren't you supposed to be writing blog entries about that, anyway? ;)

2. Had a cold (first one in over 30 years) -- and no, it wasn't an allergy. I don't have allergies that I know of.
3. Kept my (other) son's 3 (count 'em) rambunctious dogs for several days.
4. Got an iPod
5. Participated in remodeling the trashed interior of a rent house.
