Pixie

So, according to Daniel, I need to update more. Since he's sprinkled signature SEO pixie dust, I must comply. Uh...insert a Star Trek Borg reference here. Anyway...

Live Oak's Christmas party was on Friday. Andy was out the week prior due to an unexpected event and so I sort of shanghaied the thing and planned it. :) Well, I guess you could say I planned it--what I actually did was sent an email to everyone in the company, with a carbon copy to several former employees, saying we were having a Christmas party. :D At Mike's prodding, I made an addendum of posting a signup sheet for food so everyone didn't bring the same thing. It turned out to be a blast. It was one of the most enjoyable Live Oak events...ever. Having Peter and Chris there made it even better. :)

I've been having a series of computer issues recently. First of all, my hard drive at home died. Note: The hard drives in Minis are not standard desktop or laptop hard drives. They're super tiny (to get them in the Mini form factor). This is bad if they go out, since the only way to get a new one (besides having a boss who owns 15 or so Minis and happens to have a bad one with a good hard drive) is through Apple, which isn't cheap. Fortunately, I am fortunate enough to have been able to go the route of the option in parentheses. However, since there was a time factor involved in that one, and I need a computer, like, now, I bought a laptop. :) I was going to buy one anyway; I was just planning to wait for the next update to the line. Ah well. I love it. My computer moves with me now. :)

This was followed up with Wednesday's ridiculous issue...my monitor acting stupid. It was impressive; the thing blinked out and failed to show a picture about 50% of the time, and often reverted to incorrect resolutions or just plain garbage on the screen. Not wanting to use one of the CRTs in the office (ick), I decided to just go replace the thing. I invested in the least expensive 22" WS monitor that Best Buy had, on the idea that I'd get enough additional work done with more workspace to make it worth it (which actually I'm beginning to believe more and more!)...having a nice workstation makes a huge difference.

Lastly, I started teaching myself Ruby over the weekend. I'll reserve public judgment, positive or negative, until I've gotten more into it.
