I'm picky?
So Slashdot had an interesting link to this article, which claims that a profound disrespect for the laws of physics in movies leads to general mathematical and scientific illiteracy.
I don't disagree with the premise (the other Acorns are known to complain that I'm far too much of a stickler for such things when evaluating movies--it's become a running joke whenever the terrible Battlestar Galactica is mentioned). However, this article takes the point to an entirely new level. :)
Thanks to the authors for the gripe about Superman I, though.
On another note, it is kind of funny seeing variables like Lsuperman in a physics article.

SSSHHHH! Luke might hear you and we don't want to get him started about calculating jumps through space AGAIN!

You know, why do they never mention how they fix the weightlessness in space on some many sci-fi movies? That is something that has bothered me for far too long. Of course I will admit I was too lazy to read the 20 page article. Maybe I will though.

Yeah, I saw the article on /. a while back. It is beyond pedantic.
Their claim is that the disrespect for the laws of the physics in movies leads to general mathematical and scientific illiteracy. However, they show that movies disregard the laws of the physics. This is not, I didn't think, in question. I certainly hope not. However, their claims about the effects of such things were not at all substantiated.
Perhaps they've watched too many movies that disregard proper psychology and that is why they are so unable to do psychology.
