You'll do great!

I'm sure you'll do fine. I have much faith in your ability to do well on tests...or anything academic for that matter. :)

BTW, I have no clue what Zend's PHP 5 certification is or what it merits the person certified?

Zend's doing certs now?

And you're actually going to study for it?!

Okay...the latter isn't really surprising, given whom I'm addressing. But you're probably the most knowledgeable and experienced PHP programmer I know, and I'd be surprised if you couldn't pass without studying.

Edit:Okay, I just looked over the list of exam topics, and I can see why you'd want to bone up, even if you weren't Luke Sneeringer. I'd imagine you only rarely use a lot of those things.

Actually, on all of those categories except one (Web Services), I felt like I'd do a pretty good job. However, considering the test costs $125 to take, I'd rather not be wrong. :)

Zend is the company that makes PHP.

A certification in any technical practice is basically a statement by the certifying organization that they think that you possess sufficient knowledge (actually, the standard is probably a little higher than "sufficient") about the certified practice.

So, a Zend certification would basically mean that the company that makes PHP has stated that I know how to write it. :)

Incidentally, they'd better give me some certificate to hang on my wall if I pass this. :-P

They give you a fancy-shmancy logo to put on your website, too!

I don't want that. I want a certificate that I can frame and hang on a wall at home or work (better yet, both!).

I question how much you could test on webservices since everyone does them differently.

We'll find out. ;-)
