My Nose Hurts

Just when I thought the allergy season was over and turned off all of my air filters, I got hit today by a return of my ridiculously runny nose and amazing ability to go through an insane amount of Kleenex. I think I've gone through two boxes of them today, and the bottom of my nose is very red and somewhat sore from being rubbed against by Kleenex too much. I think next year I will just have to suck it up and get a shot, because allergies in general are one of the most miserable blights on my life.

I'm slowly beginning to make preparations to move. I've started getting things somewhat ready and in order; next weekend, or maybe the one after that, I may need to spend the day boxing things up that I don't use often and moving them to the new place. Also, we switched HR companies at Live Oak (from Acadia to Gevity), and I filled out all the paperwork using the new address, to save myself the trouble later. By the way, as a random note, one of the (actually significant) reasons we switched away from Acadia is because their site doesn't work in anything but IE, which obviously we lack. So, and I know I'm soapboxing, if you think that browser compatibility is unimportant, let this be a gentle push in the direction of the notion that you are wrong.

Speaking of Live Oak, I spent a ton of time on the road this past week. I'm slowly learning the truth of the concept that corporate America is run by meetings. I joked to Andy that he must just be attempting to see if my stock of dress shirts rivals my (insane) stock of t-shirts; I had to dress up four days out of five this week, and three of those were for work. Wowzers.

Lastly, I found out today thanks to the kind folks at Rose Automotive (my auto shop of choice) that my front passenger tire was installed backwards. I didn't even know that was possible. That isn't something that Rose fixes, so I'll have to take it to Discount Tire on Monday, have them go, "Whups," and reverse it. It's a minor inconvenience, I suppose, and is somewhat funny. You learn something new every day.

Tires can be installed backwards if they have a directional tread pattern. Most general-purpose tires don't, but models designed for high-performance cars and for driving on wet roads often do. Directional tires usually have an arrow on the sidewall indicating the correct rotational orientation.

I'll get back to you. I'm hoping that I'm almost done with the winter allergy season, but I've already been demonstrated to be wrong once. ;-)

Treatment for the sore nose problem: rub a little bag balm at the base and around the edge of your nose every hour or so. (Bag balm is a vaseline-like substance that is designed to keep a cow's udder from chapping in the cold weather. Hence it is "bag" (udder) balm). I have some that you can have, or you might find it at H.E.B.

I've been doing that. It's not cutting it.
