The Heather's Conjecture

An interesting theory, proposed by The Heather, has been under discussion at Live Oak for a couple of days now. Here it is:

If a person is funny (read: really funny), then that person cannot sing.

Discuss.

Robin Williams and Nathan Lane??

I immediately thought of Robin Williams as a counter-example.

Maya Rudolph and Fred Armisen of the current SNL season are quite funny and both can sing quite well. Gwen Verdon, Carol Burnett, Ethel Merman, Matthew Broderick, Catherine O'Hara, Paul Reubens, Harry Shearer, Christopher Guest, Eugene Levy, Michael McKean... should I keep going?

I find that actually you often find way too much talent in one person. I.e. very funny people who can also sing and be dramatic and paint and irritate the hell out of you with their immense talent.

Sarah Silverman, bitches.

Along with Harry Shearer, Christopher Guest, and Eugene Levy, add most of the rest of the cast of A Mighty Wind.

Sir Alec Guinness sang pretty well when he was young (though I'd be surprised to hear Obi-Wan belting out a tune).

We've been calling her that for a couple of months, and she didn't actually know what the joke's referent was until Thursday.
